Happy Memories

Yesterday was Saturday and in the morning we just took it easy. Hung around the apartment and spent some time by the pool. After Cushla's nap we decided to head out and explore a little bit. We had a drive and ended up at Inya lake where we had a brief walk around and wandered into the lobby of the Inya Lake hotel for a coffee. Our cappuccinos arrived and didn't look too impressive. A quick sip confirmed it to be watery instant coffee and we decided that the US$3 charge that went with it wasn't fair for an instant coffee so I told the waiter it wasn't very nice and he explained they were having some trouble with their machine and they would try again. Some time later the coffees re-appeared. You've never seen foam like this before! When i exclaimed that there was quite a foam mountain the waiter very honestly confessed that their "foam machine" was not working but they found some packet foam for us. Yikes! Packet foam?! Under the packet foam...the same instant coffee. Later in the evening we had plans to go for dinner. Our dining companions had a recommendation for a restaurant just round the corner called 'Happy Memories' which none of us had tried before. The restaurant was really nice and the food was good too but there were two other highlights to our evening which had us in fits of laughter. The first was the entertainment. The restaurant had a very talented piano player who began shortly after we arrived. A little later his playing was drowned out by the dulcit tones of Elvis' long lost Myanmar brother. (It was quite dark so i've had to edit the photo and it's not great but you might get the idea) There was a lot of tossing of the hair and grunting and the southern accent was just too too much!

Our meal was a belated birthday celebration for one of our dining companions and as the cake was cut Don asked for some ice-cream to go with it. The waiter told him that ice-cream was "out of season" and when pressed further he explained that "now is rainy season and there's no ice cream in rainy season." uh huh.
